Sixteen of Elm Creek School’s student-athletes in Grades’ 9-12 recently had the opportunity to further develop their basketball skills for the new basketball season. Mr. Dan Becker, Basketball Manitoba’s Technical Director and High Performance Coach, visited the school this past December 4th to conduct a 2 and a 1/2 hour skills clinic for these students. Dan Becker has over 30 years background and experience in the sport of basketball including: playing NCAA Division 1 at the University of Colorado, a ten year professional career on teams in Europe and the Middle East, and more recently, coaching the Manitoba U17 Male Team that captured the first ever gold medal at the Canadian National Championships in 2014!
Mr. Becker had the clinic participants engage in several ball-handling, passing, shooting, and offensive and defensive drills. The clinic concluded with a scrimmage-like activity that gave these student-athletes the opportunity to apply some of their newly-acquired skills!
An appreciative thank you to Mr. Dan Becker for sharing his expertise at this clinic! Thanks as well to Mr. Derek Tyler, Elm Creek School’s physical education teacher, for planning and hosting this opportunity for our students!
