Warning Lights

Please be aware that the eight way warning system on a school bus is designed to warn motorists that students are about to be off loaded or loaded at that location. You can use the warning system the same as traffic lights. If you see the yellow lights in operation, it means that the school bus is about to load or unload students. Shortly after the yellow lights operate, the red lights will come on, the crossing arm and the stop sign will deploy. At that time, it is the law that traffic in both directions stop. Unless in the case of when there is a physical barrier or a divided highway.

All motorists should be aware that passing through a stop sign of a school bus when in operation, holds a minimum fine of $673.65 and 2 demerits if convicted.
