BEFORE YOU HIT SEND – A PRESENTATION ON SOCIAL MEDIA USE AND MISUSE!
With social media use becoming more prevalent in today’s society, challenges associated with its misuse are becoming more problematic and can compromise the very safety and wellbeing of our children and youth. With this challenge in mind, Elm Creek School recently hosted presentations for Grade 5-12 students on the topic of social media use and misuse.
The presenters were two RCMP constables with the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit from the RCMP’s “D” Division in Winnipeg. The presentation’s focus on social media safety and use included topics such as: electronic device responsibility, privacy settings, sharing images, and texting use.
The overall feedback from students, staff and parents in attendance at these presentations was very positive in terms of the information shared. Elm Creek School would like to thank the RCMP “D” Division for providing this service to our school community! Thanks as well to Mrs. Julie MacNeil, one of our Prairie Rose School Division social workers, for arranging these presentations with the RCMP!
