May 23, 2019, marked the annual South Region Track Meet that Carman Collegiate hosts in conjunction with Athletics Manitoba and Sport Manitoba. 700 athletes and 35 volunteers enjoyed the beautiful day. The meet embraces a grassroots philosophy of younger children participating in basic physical activity as opposed to highly technical track and field events. Events are designed for children from grade 3 to 8 to compete and the annual meet is often a first-time competitive track experience for many participants. Top finishers are then invited to compete at the Manitoba Age-Class Meet in June in Winnipeg. Several of PRSD’s schools were in attendance along with schools traveling from all directions such as Crystal City, Gladstone, Gretna, and Sanford. It is a perfect opportunity for our grade 11 and 12 Physical Education students to practice their leadership skills by taking charge of running events or lending a helping hand throughout the day. Carman Collegiate had 31 students from grades 6-8 participating in the events and another 30 grade 11-12 students volunteering.
