Position: Senior Systems Administrator
Reports to: Information Technology Supervisor
Policy: The Senior Systems Administrator reports to the Information Technology Supervisor and in their absence will report and take direction from the Assistant Superintendent. The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for the technical implementation and support of all network systems for the Division. The Senior Systems Administrator manages Divisional servers and network infrastructure under the direction of the Information Technology Supervisor. The Senior Systems Administrator is the technical lead on network security which includes the development and documentation of a disaster recovery plan. The Senior Systems Administrator provides hardware and software support solutions to address technology issues that arise in day to day operations, supports desktop computer technicians and local network administrator with their tasks and provides end user training on an as needed basis.
Responsibilities:
- Implements, upgrades, and supports all technical aspects of the divisional network systems and infrastructure, including on premises and Cloud hosted systems,
- Maintains divisional network back-up and disaster recovery plan to provide optimal security and availability,
- Provides training, documentation, and support to technical staff members on the administration of network devices,
- Ability to conduct training seminars and end-user support services,
- Assists in monitoring and reporting on network activity,
- Develops documentation for network systems and infrastructure,
- Assists the IT Supervisor to determine hardware and software needs for the Division and assists the IT Supervisor with purchasing,
- Keep skills up to date by attending training conferences, courses or workshops,
- Physically able to work within confined spaces, and physical strength to lift 15kg,
- Assists with special projects and other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Post-Secondary Diploma in Information Technology (Networking Specialty) or a combination of post-secondary computer training in a college or university environment,
- Microsoft MSCE or MSCA, Cisco CCNA, or CompTIA Network+ and Security+ certifications is highly desirable
- At least two years’ experience in network administration and implementation and maintenance of network systems,
- Excellent verbal and written communication,
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills,
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment,
- Flexible and able to quickly adapt to changing priorities
- Strong organizational and customer service skills
- Demonstrated ability to conduct training seminars and end-user support services
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle
- Be able to move equipment weighing up to 15kgs
