Qualifications

  • Post secondary education in Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
  • Conversant with the use of office software applications.
  • Demonstrated strengths and experience in accounting, internal control and audit functions, and analytical activities.

Position summary

Under the direction of the Secretary-Treasurer, the Assistant will assist by performing assigned tasks in the Secretary-Treasurer’s areas of responsibility.

Responsibilities and duties

  • Assist in the annual preparation of the September 30th Manitoba Education and Youth statistical data forms. Complete other surveys as required.
  • Prepare invoices for billable substitute costs to MEY, other school divisions, or other organizations.
  • Complete reconciliation of general and trust bank accounts, including the preparation of month-end journal entries.
  • Prepare month-end accounting reports, including school budgets.
  • Reconcile specific grant expenses, including the preparation of attendant journal entries: Student Support grants, Special Projects grants, P.D. grants, etc.
  • Deposit all monies and funds received, in accordance to Division receipting policies and procedures.
  • Assume primary responsibility for the EIS data collection information system.
  • Maintain an efficient system for the Policy Manual and its updates.
  • Provide support to School Secretaries in the use of forms or programs as required; e.g. school accounts software.
  • Be responsible for Accounts Receivable and maintain current support records.
  • Attend Board finance committee meetings to record minutes.
  • Perform other related accounting duties as assigned by the Secretary-Treasurer.

 

Terms of employment

  • 12 month job position;
  • 7 hours per day with the hours to be assigned by the Secretary-Treasurer;
  • salary as established by the Board.

 

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated by the Secretary-Treasurer in the first six months of employment, and every three years thereafter.
